Sweet recess a little while in my super busy schedule!

I love NY in which a heavy snow falls.
My country's weather is very similar to NY that has four seasons, but there isn't a snowfall like yesterday in my hometown.
It's wonderful not only to appreciate a landscape of snow, but also to take a rest my breaking off all of things(working, go shopping even go to school) on.

I watched a movie, 'A good Year'. It was a romantic comedy. Russell Crowe stars as ruthless businessman Max Skinner, a man is the acquistion of wealth at the expense of the other guy. But when he inherits a vineyard embrace the simple and most precious pleasure of life, and finds his soul when he loses his heart to a french beauty.
Moreover, I liked the set against the visually intoxicating backdrop of Provence, France.

W R I T I N G T E S T

I read my classmate's blog.
I think that he is a very brave and judicious person because it's not easy to point out something wrong frankly. I also added comment in agreement on his blog. Here it is.

(Lying to one's own self)
You're right! Lying to one's own self, it's a really sad situation. I can't believe that somebody in my class has been addicted to cheating oneself as well as others everyday. Maybe it isn't a lying rumor because everybody knows the undeniable fact, but they just pretended not to know it. I'm just worring about his/her future... as if a gunman is killed by a gun.

I felt so sorrowful all today.
My American Dream has being broken since some time ago.

Today's Writing Test...

I worried a little yesterday night because it was snowing at that time.

I looked out of a window and on the street as soon as I wake up this morning.
Fortunately, snow on the street melt away entirely, but it remained a little on my car, I didn't care it, and left home earlier than usual.

I became tense a little, nevertheless I used to enjoy myself by feeling in particular situation whenever I am strained. Although hard working, I love myself to live tightly.
What a fresh phase it is! How worth, proud I am!

I hate feeling loosely as hanging down. It is never interesting any more. Such a situation always make me so sad. Somebody said, "Partir pour partir(in French)"='Leave(or start) in order to leave(in English)'. I'm not sure about my translation at all.

I wrote an essay about 3th topic : When you move to another country, to follow the customs of the another country or to keep my own customs.

I felt a lump in my throat after undergoing the writing test for 2 hours.
Though I was super tired, I am rewarded my writing test.

The Official Announcement from Jenny!

Hi, everybody!

As you know, I've been working at library NCC since the early semester, so I'll let you know a new system changed at library.

Do you have a student ID card?
Of course, I also have. Whenever, wherever you go on campus, you need it with you. For example, you can borrow a few books that you need, and you can use media machine in the media room, internet in the reference desk.

Last Thursday(Dec. 11th), the system was changed completely to a new Banner System like above my ID card. There are two bar-code in your old card, but only one bar-code with your N-number in new card.

You'll not be able to use the old card at library at all, so it'll be more convinient to change in advance. It's not difficult. You can go to the public safety or the basement of T-building. Just wait a couple munites.

I got a new card at the break time yesterday.

Make a Wise choice : Marriage!

These days, we have talked about marriage at class.
Here's my opinion that I have thought after my marriage.

I think that
marriage is precious experience you can have.

First, these days, marriage is a choice rather than essentiality. Incresed divorce rates shows society doesn't deem marriage as important as it once did. Nevertheless, it is still important because society is more complex and difficult, so you can't live alone. The old proverb also says, "No man is an island."

Second, by being marriaged, you can have financial, physical and mental benefit. Therefore, you can save money. For example, you and your partner don't need to buy two houses, washing machines, gas ovens and beds. Just buy a one for two! You can have your own family from whom you can recieve emotional support like lovely children.

The last, marriage is the best way to ease the problems of the aged. The benefits of marriage are even greater when you get to an old age. Your spouse is your partner in life.

Of course, you can feel another bad....next time I'll continue

Final Project (2)

Today, there was also the presentation for 6 person who was

from China, Haiti, Republic of Dominica, Bangladesh and Israel.

It was so interesting, but sometimes so boring, because nobody mentioned correct time that a project rule limited in 15minutes.
I think, it's very important how well you can show and explain your infomation within limited time, especially in competition.
Anyway, I expect everything of El salvador from Fausto!

How, final project ^@^

I was very tired all today because I went to bed too late last night to prepare the final project.
As you know, I was very busy last week due to 2 parties a little earlier for the end of the year. In addition to it, I have been restless a little because I have a heavy schedule to visit my country on Wed, Dec 23th, so I didn't have enough time for my project.
Everybody who was from Colombia, Vietnam, India, Chile and Greece had a perfect preparation, so I really got useful infomation. Here are your pictures that i took at class.
If you want to get your picture,
just click(right of mouse) on your picture,
and then, save it on your com.
Enjoy yourself!

At the end of the year.....

I have been very busy this week, because there were lots of parties(?) for me.

On Thursday, there was a gathering with Korean friends and neighbors at my best friend's house. It was a little earlier an Year-end party as well as Chrismas party. Most of them had to pick their child up at coming home from school and spend with their family the winter vacation at the end of the year, so we had a luncheon party a little earlier.

My best friend has been skillful in cooking all kinds of food very much.
She taught an English in my country, but she used to prefer cooking to teaching.
All ten guests were supurised with her cooking, serving talent so fast...
There were many kinds of food such as a vegetarian dish, a traditional korean food and soup, a salmon dish of American style and a wonderful wine each person etc.

All of them were very full, so we went down to the basement with Karaoke and sang a song, raised our voices together to the full.

On Friday, there was a wine party at another friend's house.
Just three best friends gathered quietly to promote friendship advance a friendly feeling.
We chatted of old times like husband, living with husband's family and children's future in a romantic atmosphere. It was so much pleasure for us at the end of the year.
American wine BV, Napa Valley had a beautiful smell and especially matched with salmon salad very well.

I'm neither a habitual drinker nor a gourmet, but I enjoyed the wine to the full, for a chat by the time 10 pm, and then we said good-bye.

Spongebob Pudding lesson from Consuelo

At 3 p.m. Saturday, my daughter and I went to Consuelo's house for the lesson for making Spongebob pudding. She invited us to her house. We met her family, we greeted them, and she let us tour her house.

She was really talented in many ways. She painted her walls. In one room, she painted with the theme of outer planet, and one of the other room's theme was aquarium. She even decorated and painted her bathroom. It was amazing!

I learned in detail how to make a jelly pudding. It was not so difficult as much as I thought. Thanks to her kind explaination, my work was well-done. It was almost a piece of work, not food.

While we were waiting for the pudding to be complited in refrigerator,
she and I talked about a lot of things such as therapy, insomnia and relationship among family member. And she showed me her daughter's picture album, it was a big party to celebrate her 16th birthday, and I apprehended a little Colombian culture that I have never seen in my culture.

There was a very cute(?) dog named Keelo. He was white and clever. She said he was mixed breed. I think that's why he is that smart. My daughter gave her daughter a little pouch with Korean traditional decoration magnet and a accessory. I also invited her to South Korea some day.

Happiness that Thanksgiving brought me

What a gorgeous holiday it is!
My daughter and I were very excited about American Thanksgiving Day because we had a great plan to trip to somewhere. We were going to travel to Boston & Rhode Island, but We had to change the plan because the sightseeing places in Rhode Island was closed during this holiday.

We got out of home early morning, arrived at Princeton University in NJ after 2 hours. My daughter always wanted to go Princeton University. Although most of stores was closed, there were lots of people including us at campus which has antique buildings, so we took pictures and had a lunch time comfortably in Starbucks. Maybe it seemed that she plans her wonderful future seriously.

And then, we started to West Point which the Military Academy is located, point of a beautiful view. On our way, the sun had set behind the Bear Mountain, it was a very beautiful scenery. After that, we drove to Woodbury Commons Premium Outlet because there were Midnight Madness Sales that almost popular brands offer. It was very interesting for us, we prefered participating and looking at Black Friday to buying something.
we passed all night shopping.
My daughter was delighted to see with her own eyes from sunset to sunrise.
We were back home about 9 o'clock a.m.
We fell fast asleep as soon as taking a shower.
It was a special trip, but too tired for me.

Anyway, it was a wonderful trip and a sucessful independent life in the US.
Two days in my vacation still remain and smile to see me.

How to live beautifully ^.^

Are you satisfied with your current life? How much, if you are?

My senior friend visited me with some Korean food after school.
She has been in the US for about 30 years, and she has always helped me like a daughter or a sister when I am faced with a difficult trouble.

Whenever she visits me, she used to inspire me with a passage from somewhere.
Although she is a busy career woman, she devotes in public welfare works as well as her own job. They're the reasons why I love her.

Today also, she informed me about 4 things to do to live so prettily.
1. Do 1 good thing a day
2. Write 10 words a day
3. Read 100 words a day
4. Walk 1000 steps a day

If you can do it everyday, I'm sure that your life may be healthy and beautiful.

Culture Shock IV

My daughter and I came here at the same time. I still have a trouble in everything such as American food, culture and language, but she became to feel American lifestyle comfortable. Sometimes, she says that she prefers English to Korean in reading, writing as well as a general conversation.

Prabably she is going to move in the last, home stage. For example, I went to a theater to see up-to-date movie that named 'twilight' with her two friends. It was so boring and never interesting for me, but she and her friends who were born in the US were interested in the movie. I felt lonely for a while. It'll take long time for me to go upto the home stage.

Here's the fourth Culture Shock.

Newcomers are now able to enter and prosper in the mainstream culture. They accept both cultures and combine them into their lives. Some people will adopt the mainstream culture at school and follow the values of the home culture outside of school. During this stage many immigrant parents make it clear to their children that they do not want them to adopt the mainstream culture. This is because many immigrant children forget their native language and reject their culture. People called them '1.5 generation'.

In my opinion I lie between supprting parents and parents who never want to adopt the mainstream culiture, because times are changing rapidly. Contrary to past, today's world is a global village. It's obviouse to everybody that everything has been changed fast.

Today's real winner is a person who can adopt whatever he/she face up to.

Of course, he/she should be able to control both mainstream and native culture.

Culture Shock III

I'm in the stage between horror and humor.
Of course, it's thanks to ESL instructor and LINCC system.
However, I'm still afraid of native American, new places and stores.

In this humor stage, people start to deal with the differences between the old culture and new culture. They learn to integrate their own beliefs with those of the new culture. Some people replace the old values with new ones. Others begin to find ways to exist with both cultures. Many immigrant parents become alarmed at this stage because they never want their children to lose their language and culture.

Sometimes I find out myself who mixes well with my neghbors, classmates and co-workers.
And then, I used to be relaxed for a while and also feel happy. Now and again I gain confidence in myself in the US.
However, just at that time I discover myself who doesn't understand at all in the course of conversation. And then, I absolutely feel sad and get depressed of spirits.

Well, people says, "You can hardly expect to be perfect from outset."
'Yes, right!'
"many a little pickle makes a mikcle.", somebody is saying close to my ears.

'La vie en Rose', What a wonderful song it is!

I did an interesting experience in NYC yesterday evening.

There was an award ceremony for a contest celebrating Quebec's 400 anniversary.
The contest named the Great Explorers was held in website, all tri-state students(NY, NJ, CT) from grade K-8 were eligible to participate, and the French Embassy in the US and the Quebec Government Office in NY hosted a series of school contests to celebrate it and to honor the famous French explorers of Northern America areas as Jacques Cartier, Samuel de Champlain and Robert LaSalle. I went to Manhatan because my daughter won a prize on the contest.

It was a particular ceremony which promotes the French Culture.
It was like a play, a concert and an opera. I'd never forget songs(Carmen, La vie en rose) that Maria Christina sang yesterday. Especially, 'La Vie en Rose'(the rose-colored life) has been still very French popular song. How fantastic it was!

We also ate out in a graceful restaurant there were a live music.
It was delicious as much as expensive, so my daughter and I was happy in the early weekend.

Culture Shock II

These days I am at the second stage-horror stage.

During the first three months, everything was curious and wonderful for me.

After that, I suffered from another culture shock such as irritable, disinterested or depressed. Because it was very difficult for me to get my driver license.
The differences between the new and the native cultures becomes more apparent. There is so much I do not understand about my new surroundings. Sometimes I am frustrated because I can't communicate and am bombarded with unfamiliar surroundings, unreadable social signals and an unrelenting barrage of new sounds.
Maybe, newcomers including me in this stage of culture shock need much more time and patience.

Fortunately, I got a social security number after the lapse of 1 year 6 months on this September because I started to work on campus. So I effected an life insurance contract, opened an saving account with a bank, applied my own credit card and department cards.

Now I feel better, more comfortable than early horror stage.
However, I am still afraid of meeting somebody.

Madagascar, Escape 2 Africa

I'm very happy because I exercised to the full on golfing with my visitors, ate sushi kebab and took a enough rest.

And I saw a interesting movie. It was an animation called Madagascar, Escape 2 Africa. Its story was about Central Park Zoo animals. Especially the graphic design was almost marvelous, the scenery of Africa was the same as the real. Here're the story.
After a brief flashback prologue where we see how the young lion Alex is separated from his father Zuba....instead of landing in NYC, the aircraft sputters and crash lands right in the middle of Africa....after undergoing lots of troubles they meet again, and escape from Africa. At the final scene, I was impessed as Alex and his father danced together to earn the pride's respect from human being who gonna kill them.

I'm still listening, "I like to move it, move it~. She likes to move it, move it~. We like to move it, move it~~."

Culture Shock I

Have you ever heard 'Culture Shock'?
I'll talk about Culture Shock that I've experienced.
Maybe It 'll be continued in the next issue.

'Culture Shock' means the feeling people have when they move to an unfamiliar culture and place.

There are 4 stages in the culture shock.
First, honeymoon stage
Second, horror stage
Third, humor stage
Last, home stage

During the first (honeymoon) stage, you are excited about your new life.
Everything is wonderful and you are having a great time learning about your environment.
That's right!
I never forget the first few weeks after I came here.
I was really excited at the USA because everything was new, fresh, curious, interesting and surprising.
There were a different language, different skin colors, various cars, numerious and tall trees, beautiful houses, huge shopping mall and endless roads & streets etc.

It looks like an earthly paradise.
perhaps it was honeymoon stage for me.

However, how is it now? Well......(to be continued)

What happened, today?

Today is the election day that the 44th president is determined by electoral college.
My daughter told me very interesting episode. The story said, "It was so curious that all of the students in her school cast a straw vote for the next president yesterday. And then the result was announced at the last period, Barack Obama won by a score of 3(about 640) to 1(about 200). I like Mr.obama."

It sounds funny and I was suprised at the episode.
Of course, it was secret ballot and all of the students studied 2 candidates for a while. I thought that the U.S. must be a real democratic nation. Even though she is 11 years old, she already experienced the Bill of Rights. I become to love American education system that builds up good judgement.

Anyway, Gabi and I have a big problem. She is studying in a Math Honor Class, she generally did well at the first Quarter, but she looked like feeling difficult after exam every week. I don't want to be pressed by exam stress, but my friend advised me to ask for a tutor. What can I do, How can....?

Gabi and I went to lakeshore learning store and Barnes Noble Bookstore, bought several Math books. She said, "I am happy and thank you for thoughtful consideration, so I'll study harder." Fortunately she handled matters nicely by herself.

However, what happened? I left my credit card at the bookstore! The casher called me...Oh my God^@^

In the middle of the autumn ^_^

Yesterday I enjoyed hiking to the full in the middle of this autumn.

When I started from my house, I worried a little because it was quite windy.
However, when I arrived at the destination(a hiking trail in the Cold Spring Harbor), it was obvious that my fear was utterly groundless. It was sunny and bright.

The mountain was wonderful, but on my way, it was much better than inside Mt. that the hills got tinged with red, yellow and scarlet colour. Driving on the road between hillside with autumn tints stired up me feelings hard.

It seemed like a heroine of a picture colored beautifully by rainbow color. How romantic, how fantastic it was! Probably I'll become to love a fall extremly in the 4 seasons.

I've been happy all the day after climbing for 2 hours. For this reason I had to complete my homework till late at night.

Anyway I'll try to speak first much more than before at work.

American Education System

Last week I am much surprised at education system in US.
My daughter attends 6th grade in Herricks middle school. She has been excited in skiing all the week because she's going to trip to the Frost Vally Environmental Education center. The dates will be February 9, through February 12, 2009.

It's a problem that the numerous forms are required for the field trip only 4 days.
The numerous forms that I have to sign there embarrassed me.
First of all, I had to attend a meeting that help me navigate.
Second, I visited to my daughter's physician, noticed her trip plan and I had to get doctor's permission to be able to take over the counter medication.
Third, I had to sign the forms after I completed the numerous forms with 7 sheets.
Finally, I brought it with a check equal to $431 to her school office.

It was too difficult job for me.
My reading skill and speed looks like improved much more, because it took me as long as 3 days to read the documents carefully.
I am still scared with any document, because nobody can live without a written document in the USA. I am still unfamiliar to English document.
I'm just an alien. It may be a kind of a culture shock.

Anyway certainty or complication...which one better?

The first step is the hardest!

"The first step is the hardest!," a proverb said, and then starting good is the same as it's already half completed.

I am worrying about a different teacher changed because it's difficult for me to acclimate myself to a new situation. Sometimes I couldn't understand a little what Mrs. Marissa said. Probably it's getting better sooner or later.

Therefore I don't like to start something, to try new things such as clothes, shoes and special food etc. Although I hate such trying, I have to finish to the last once I start something. It's not only my good point but also a weak point.

Anyway I am excited at second session now, so I'll try to do my best and study harder.

Ah, here're some pictures that I took on last Friday. Enjoy yourself!

My First Salary!

Hi, Mrs. Elaine and my peers,
I am very excited now, because I made money by myself for the first time, after moving in to the USA.
Of course, the amount is too small. I am receiving a half -pay from my country due to temporary retirement from the Ministry of Education, it is no more than about 10% of an original pay in my country.

I am proud of myself as it seemed for me not to be able to happen within a short time. I have been here for 1year 7 months. At first, it was terrible to exchange and understand even basic communication, and now more convinient than before. I think everything thanks to learning hard. I have been obssessed with learning something till now, so I started to learn golfing in earnest yesterday. My coach in golf is a humorous, kind man, and I expect to improve , fix my skill.

'The Road not taken'

On Saturday I worked at NCC library for 5 hours.
I was too tired to cook dinner, so I ate out with my daughter after swimming.
We ate a Korean food that we have missed for a long time, and it
(a kind of peppery soup with fish) was very tasty for us. I had quite recovered from fatigue.

Anyway, on my working I was glad to find a poetical works of Robert Frost who I've loved until now, but i've forgotten it after came here. It is a poem that I really loves.

The Road Not Taken
-Robert Frost-

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
I woke up late, went out my house to 'the road not taken'.
I was lost in thought for 2hours.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.....

Nobody's perfect!

"What's up?" said Gabi. She used to call me a perfectionist in joke.

My mistakes I made today wasn't really worthy of me. It was two times...
The first one was that I forgot to bring my homework and the second one was I missed return due of DVD(Awakening) borrowed. I paid a $3 late fine the first time.

I was busy day after day, because I went to Mt. Bear and worked up to a late hour, I lacked an ability of concentration.

Actually I've constrained myself to be perfect untill now. It was too hard for myself.
A mistake will be able to make another sucess.
People say that nobody is perfect.

I hypnotized myself 'Jenny, please take easy, easier' in repeat.
I came here not to force, to enjoy my life.

I remind a passage,
"If you change your thinking, your mind is changed,
if you change your mind, your life is changed."

Tom & Jerry Tales

Let me talk about ‘Tom and Jerry tale’ that I made in 3 minutes speech, because several peers asked me to hear the story.
As you know, Tom is a cat, and Jerry is a mouse.

One day Jerry was playing with his friends in a playground. From over there Tom approached nearer to the place. Most of them that saw Tom coming up were afraid of him, trembled for fear and tried to run away for their lives. Then Jerry suddenly cried a cat’s sound, “Meow, meow”. Soon after Jerry imitated a cat’s voice once more, “Meow, meow” And then Tom heard the voice disappeared somewhere as if nothing happened, not interested in the voice.
The mice who escaped their serious crisis gathered around Jerry and jumped with great delight. Then Jerry said in pride, “These days, you have to speak at least two languages.” The mice clapped their hands while giving a nod.

After that, the mice called Jerry a bilinguist.

At last Jenny conquered Mt. Bear

I got out my house at 8:30, joined with my three friends in Christpher Morley park and we started to Bear Mountain by one car.

My heart was never throbbing with expectation like this morning.
What a golden opportunity it is!
What a beautiful weather it is!
How lucky we are!

We didn't need to hurry up, and nobody didn't press to go fast, so we took a long way around to see a sight going past by us. On going through the 95 route, we crossed over Through Neck bridge and a long, beautiful bridge named Tep...

Finally we arrived on the spot, but we lost our way to go to the summit of Mt. Bear, wandered from place to place, took a coffee on a riverside and climbed on the top by car^.^ There are wonderful view points on all sides. I also spoke French with the French a little.
Wow, I couldn't believe the multycolorful tinged, maple trees....

After we drove the same road till 4 times, hardly found a sign written 'Seven Lakes Dr' and had delicious lunch in a big, fantastic lakeside with a picnic area.

We felt something lacking, because it was a time to back home.
Although we were late, we had to walk even for a while.

I hope I'll hike, climb on the next time.

Beverly hills Chihuahua

Yesterday, my daughter was waiting me back home, because she had no school in Columbus Day. We went to watch a movie 'Beverly hills Chihuahua' to AMC theatre in Roosevelt field. Its story is,

"Chloe, a ritzy Beverly Hills chihuahua finds herself lost while on vacation in Mexico, and a spoiled Chihuahua relies on new friends to help her get home."

It was very interesting and funny, these day my daughter is obssessed with a peppy, so she loved it overly.
I also felt actually that the Disney company has a strong hold on the public, because I heard the Disney earned $52,540,000 only 10 days.

Anyway, I am still afraid of a dog, because I have a terrible memory that I got bitten by a dog in my childhood. But my daughter loves it too much, she presses me for a chihuahua everyday.

What shall I do?

Let's go to Bear Mountain on Wednesday!

Who knows a direction and information of how to go to Bear Mountain?

I wanna go to field trip to Bear Mountain which has 7 big lakes.
Did you hear that no class will be on Wednseday, Oct 15.
I have a golden opportunity.
I am worrying if I lose the rare opportynity.

It's the best time to see the sight of there, because I heard the hills are aflame with autumnal tints.

I don't have any information.
Please give me any and all info tomorrow.

Climb a low mountain in Cold Spring Harbor State park

I am very happy now, because I climbed a mountain in the morning, breathed in fresh air to the full for three hours.

I have two Korean freinds after I came in the US. In fact, it was difficult to get along with a good friend, because I have had a feeling like a disbelief or a prudence about immigration society. I was always nervous that I meet a lot of kinds of people. I didn't know them at all, such as their character, formal schooling, back-ground....Of course, I think such things aren't too important.

One of them is a housewife who was an English teacher in my country, she loves to exercise, cook, drink, study, and she is very sensitive women. She treated us to lunch today.

The other one of them is also housekeeper whose husband is a dentist, she doesn't have a particular talent in cooking, singing and drinking like me, but she and I have a common hobby that both of us enjoy golf. Of course, we are just a beginner.

Also, we enjoyed singing in her basement, because she has a Karaoke machine.
Her daughter who is in high school made fun of our singing in a loud voice, but we didn't care at all.

Aftermath of Internet Rumor

There was a shocking news in my country last week.
An actress who has been very popular killed herself suddenly. She was very beautiful, quick-witted and active, so she was a sweetheart for everybody.
The first cause of her death was just internet rumor that someone spread a false report without a source. I was shocked at the news. I guessed she was too hard to endure.

I realized both sides of internet, merits and demerits.
I absolutely understood about her difficult situation, but I couldn't agree with her behavior.
She was a mother who breeds two children. They are only 7 & 5years old.
I think nobody can kills oneself at one's will, even it's one's own life.
It is another sinner that she abandons her children, so I couldn't cry for her.
How irresponsible it is!

I remind a passage that I watched in a movie today,
"Human being's warm-heart is more powerful than any drug"

I'm going to climb a mountain to blow away my depression tomorow.

I prefer a movie Mamma Mia to musical.

Hi, How was weekend? I was also busy, but so interested with a movie Mamma Mia.

On Saturday I had some things to do such as volunteering for my daughter to Korean school, for me to work at library in the morning, and swimming and then meeting with a dentist. After finished that jobs, I ate out, shopped in Flushing with my daughter. That day she met many, kind Korean people, so she looked like feeling homesick strongly. I have to drown her grief in a movie. I showed her a movie Mamma Mia which had downloaded.

I saw the musical 'Mamma Mia' with my family last summer together. It was very interesting, especially the actress(Donna)'s amazing voice impressed us.
In the movie a daughter(Sophie)'s a role had a fascination to me, and my daughter was also exited about that, and then she soon calmed down.

I'd like to recommend this movie and ABBA's music strongly.

Sweet Holidays make fresh!

I had a really sweet holiday for 2days. How sweet it was!
I was greeted with the second september after I came in the USA.

Last september I didn't know it was so difficult for me, because all of my family lived together here and it's not too much for me something to do.

This september I'm alone and I have to take care of my daughter who entered in a middle school this time. In addition to it, I started to work as well to study. I like my work, but I don't have enough time to spare. I was also busy even weekends.

For 2 days I had a good time with my daughter such as cutting her hair, inviting at a party, gathering with my friends and chattering for 5 hours, doing laundry, cleaning my house, and eating out.... We did lots of things really. Moreover late sleeping!

Theseday, I'm missing my husband who devoted himself to take care of our everything till last spring, so i'll send e-mail to him thanks for his love tonight.

Anyway a new start always makes fresh. Ummh, refreshshshsh...

Gathering with my friends in BOCES

It has been a long time to see my Korean women whom I made friends in BOCES(Board of Cooperative Educational Service).

They're studying in BOCES in their own ways, that place is English learning center for adult and has the advantage of learning free. There are also many kinds of people from various countries such as people who want to get a high school's certificate, people who lost one's opportunity to study because of living, and people who want to get along with other people etc.

I've been there for a while when I came in the USA last year, and I attended to practice while this summer vacation. I miss there because there are a lot of friends about my age. They just talk about ways of living instead of homework, so their English skills are always at a standstill. How an irony it has!!

An activities fair~

I went to CCB with Olga, Lihn, Evelyn after my class.
There were many kinds of clubs such as art, breakdancing, computer graphics, environmental technology, free enterprise, french, future teachers, hotel/restaurant, physical therapy, transfer, vignette, wall street club, women students association etc.

It was very interesting, so i made a round of outside for a run-through.
I ate some candies, chocolates, and i got a pretty bag from art club.
I signed up to join them in three clubs. They were Vignette that publish and edit newspaper on campus, future teachers club, women students association.

I can't expect a positive activity right now, because I don't have enough time.
Anyway I'm sure that they'll make fresh my life in the USA.

Back to school in the USA

I attended 'back to school' of my daughter's middle school.
For a while I had emotional feelings, because my station in life is changed before mine.

In my country it was hard work that I always had to explain, guide a changed education system to parents accurately. In the USA it looked like picnic. First parents in groups went to the auditorium, just listen to principal and then went to the class up to 11 period according to her schedule. Parents can meet with an academic teacher, science teacher, music teacher, physical teacher, counseller and math honor teacher in each classroom.

I had an effective time for about 2 hours, because it was not only a changed my station but also a different education system, a different language and a different race.

Although I couldn't understand entirely, I was satisfied to join back to school.
On the next time, I'll tell you about a difference of education system between my country and the U.S.A.

The second day at work@@

I took rest for 2 hours with a hot pack below my neck as soon as I came back home, because it was too hard to sit on the seat for 4 hours of class.

I'll tell you about my second day at work last Saturday.
I worked for 3 hours, for the first an hour and a half I stood the front desk of reserve area located in the first floor and lent a book to a student who bring call number of reserve book, I had to tell them that its time is 2 hours and available only in the library. It was not difficult to find the book, to lend it. When the student doesn't have student ID card or not renew yet, I had to explain how to do, where to go, what to do......too difficult@@@@ My supervisor and my partener who hired earlier than me helped me very kindly.

For the rest an hour and a half, I went to circulation books area located on the third floor to restore order the circulation books that loaded with a full of cart.
classifing in order call# like 'PZ51.S 5469.A11' was very interesting.

Although i felt a bad neck pain, I worked too hard, and I almost broke down with a terrible pain, so I was absent on Sunday. I was very sorry.

Always be careful your drive!

Hi, everyone.
Always be careful your drive!

You know, I had a car accident last semester.
You can understand what I say.
At that time I stopped, when I was waiting a left signal at the red traffic light, somebody behind my car hit mine suddenly, and then the woman(driver behind) stated, "I'm so sorry, I was temporarily distracted when i gonna pick up some tissues scattered at my feet ', what happened and then I felt a bad pain with my neck. That's all.

But I have suffered an aftereffect of the accident till now.
We must be careful for all of us. Always*******

My first work at library

Yesterday was a special day for me, because I started to work the first time in the USA.
I pick up my daughter at school, drop her off at home, and went to my work at 5:00 p.m.

Mrs. Irene who is my boss and the staff of the library made me welcome together. i was a little bit nervous, because i couldn't understand totally. Somtimes i pretended to understand their talks and then i just guessed meaning of the conversation. It was not easy, not difficult.

First of all, a staff informed me how to sign in and out on my atttendence card, he gave me a rocker that i can put my bag, and I practiced to arrange 50 cards in order of call numbers. It was perfect. They were so satisfied about me.

Next, an other staff who loves library showed me into rooms of NCC library, taught me how to work. There were circulation and periodicals, reserve and reference(first floor), media and books A-N (second floor) and books P-Z (third floor).

I was a little tired but I felt proud of myself.

Freedom of Walking

I love freedom of walking, so I went to golf course to walk today afternoon also.
What a beautiful day today. It sure.
There were lots of people to enjoy a lovely weather as well as freedom of walking.

It was lucky that I played with an old women, because she spoke English very clearly and slowly.
She said that she is from Austria, her parents are Germany, she doesn't like too speedy speaking English still, though she has a citizenship in the USA. She totally retired from nurse and she has played golfing for 8 years. She looks like an intelligent woman.

She also talked about my country, she knew accurately difference between South Korea and North Korea-South Korea is democratic and rich.

I got two, she got one par through nine holes.
I felt refreshed after I walked almost 1800 yards for 2 and a half hours.

I'll start to work tomorrow.....I place my hope on first work in the USA

Korean Thanksgiving Day called Chu-Seok!

Hi, everybody, how was weekend?

I'm very tired, because I also spent a busy weekend.
I'll tell you the extra things that you didn't hear in class today.

On saturday I went to Korean School of Long island as you told you. I didn't want to teach Korean yet, but I want my daughter to practice Korean language, because she is getting forget Korean instead of having adapted very well in American life style.
She worked as a volunteer who assists a teacher in pre-school class. She was very satisfied and interested to be a volunteer.

September 14th was the Korean Thanksgiving day that comes on lunar August 15th every year.
It is a big holiday that have 4-5 consecutive holidays. All of a family, relatives usually gather together, enjoy traditional food and play traditional games. I called my husband, my son, my mother-in-law and my sisters. I also talked with my best friends for a long time.

I am missing the beautiful full moon and my family.
Hopely I expect to see all of them in winter vacation.

Practiced speaking and listening skills in golf course

I'm so happy now because I had an opportunity to practice my learning English. I went to golf in Christopher golf course near my house as soon as my class ended. I'm not a professional, just only a beginner in golfing. I am obsessed by golf from last summer because I have gone to golfing with my husband almost everyday. At that time he was mad on golfing and I disliked it. Now I am also almost crazy about golfing. Anyway, I was nervous because I was afraid to join American. Today, I felt to overcome finally. There were 4 person with me in 1 team, they are a man who works in chiropractic, a woman who totally retired as well as his wife, another woman who is a substitute teacher in a elementary school and me. I tried to talk about me. They praised up my poor English skills as well as talking about everything during 9 holes. I was very excited, interested and confident of improving mine.

How was super weekend?

My first weekend, I was very busy. On Friday after school I went golfing alone because I need to exercise more than nothing. On Saturday I went to chiropractic because of neck pain after car accident, shopped and watched movie, '21'. The movie is very interesting and suggested me lots of things.
It was the story that a genius student in MIT becomes to know a life from real experience. I recommend to try to watch it. What is a difference between accounting and gambling?....On Sunday I got up late than usual, dropped my daughter off to church, laundered, cleaned a house, pick her up and went to take a tennis lesson to Bay Side High School for her. Ah, one more, she did try out before taking a swimming lesson. The result was a level 4 that we wnat to be! Next week may be more busy. So so tired.^*^

Just making sure!

I completed my first on-line journal just five minutes ago.
So I'm just making sure that.
Because I'm proud of creating something.
I have a foreboding of improving my English skill.
I wish everyone agree with my opinion.

My first on-line jounal!

This is jenny park.
I created my blog right now.
So I'm happy, very interested in my blog.
I am too tired because I have been busy all day.
My daughter who is to be a middle school student has to prepare everything back to school, for example hair cut, supplies, clean her room, homework of honor program etc.
It's time to go to bed. Bye
